LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED SINCE 2000
We offer “off the beaten track” wilderness adventures, like no other, on Ulva Island and Stewart Island / Rakiura National Park, in New Zealand’s deep south for discerning individuals in small groups. Our focus is local and New Zealand natural and cultural history, opportunities to view kiwi and rare and threatened native birds and plants in the wild. We bring our in-depth local knowledge - gained from operating and continually developing our tours here, since 2000.
We welcome you to come and enjoy this special part of New Zealand, and share the beauty of the place we call home...
Ruggedy Range Wilderness Experience / Aihe Wildlife Cruises & Water Taxi and the Stewart Island Outdoor Adventure & Gift Shop will close for this season on 21st March 2020, in light of the current world health situation and to help people stay safe and well.
We understand that the situation may take a while to settle. We will re-open again, but this is unlikely during April / May / June 2020. We will continue to re-evaluate this decision on a regular basis in case it is safe to operate earlier. We will check emails and take phone calls and messages during our closure. However, these are uncertain times and we ask for your understanding and patience.
Please check our Blog page, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for regular updates.
We have applied 100% refunds to everyone who has cancelled their tours during the past few months. We will be reviewing our cancellation policies for future bookings that are affected by the world pandemic in order to ease financial worries for our customers.
We are currently evaluating all our tours and services and operational procedures, to implement higher standards of hygiene, cleanliness and recommended social distancing. We will also review maximum numbers on our trips. We want to get this right to ensure the safety of all our customers, staff and community. We will open when our systems are in place, we have appropriate resources and we feel that it is safe.
We continue to send our best wishes and hopes to everyone around the world.
A picturesque, forested island with easy walks, beautiful beaches and interesting coves.
"We were so lucky to have chosen Furhana to guide us on Ulva Island. Not only was she an excellent bird guide but her knowledge of plants and other animals was outstanding."
"This tour is beyond excellent. Owner and Tour Guide Furhana is so knowledgeable and so dedicated to teaching and showing you birds, trees, and fauna on Ulva Island."
"Furhana led our party through the majesty of the pristine rainforest, ears and eyes attuned to the environment. She knew every birdcall, every tiny plant, every massive tree, and her knowledge and passion flowed out and into us all."
