We are seeking special people who are mature, people orientated,  team players.

Applicants must be genuine about their ability to live and work in a semi-remote location.

In order to meet customer needs and help the business move forward, any vacancy for permanent roles are for a minimum 2 year period as we require our staff to build up their expertise and knowledge. Our key season is September to May.  Similarly seasonal work is from the start of the season to the end of the season to ensure training provided is utilised for the business.  

We have limited resources for staff training and are keen to ensure suitable candidates are available to start before the season gets underway and we are too busy to train staff.

QUALIFIED SKIPPER / NATURE GUIDE

A seasonal or permanent position for an experienced and qualified, people-friendly skipper, who loves nature and enjoys sharing their knowledge with customers. Experience driving outboard motor boats essential. There may be an opportunity for two positions working a roster basis.  Our vessel is a 7.6 mtr StabiCraft with a 250 HP outboard motor.

Key task include:

  • Transporting guided and unguided clients to walking and hiking destinations.
  • Transporting hunters and their gear.
  • Providing nature / wildlife cruises with information on wildlife seen.
  • Providing scenic and historic cruises with information on areas visited and wildlife seen. 
  • Ensuring the cleanliness of the vessel along with basic maintenance.
  • Maintaining timely and accurate records.

SALES & MARKETING ASSISTANT 

A permanent roles for a special person who is mature and responsible to take on this amazing role in our booking office and outdoor shop in Stewart Island  With a focus on sales and marketing. 

Key tasks include:

  • Selling tours and services and selling and hiring outdoor gear
  • Preparing itineraries and answering customer queries.
  • Assisting with promoting and marketing our tours and services.
  • Maintaining records
  • Helping with basic administration tasks

SALES & RETAIL ASSISTANT 

A permanent or seasonal position for a special person who is mature and responsible to take on this dynamic role in our booking office and outdoor shop in Stewart Island. 

Key tasks include:

  • Selling tours and services and selling and hiring outdoor gear
  • Preparing itineraries and answering customer queries.
  • Maintaining records
  • Helping with basic administration tasks

TRAINEE NATURE & BIRDWATCHING GUIDE

Do you have a knowledge of New Zealand birds and native flora.  Do you enjoy interacting with visitors and sharing your knowledge with clients. Are you flexible to help with guided walks: day and overnight hikes with a focus on nature and birdwatching.  Must be physically fit. For the right candidate, willing to commit to several seasons. Mainly seasonal from September to May. Off-season work may be available.

TRAINEE NATURE GUIDE + DRIVER GUIDE

Do you have a knowledge of New Zealand birds and native flora.  Do you enjoy interacting with visitors and sharing your knowledge with clients. Are you flexible to help with guided walks day and overnight hikes along with scenic road tours.  Must be physically fit. For the right candidate, willing to commit to several seasons. Mainly seasonal from September to May. Off-season work may be available.

Do you have a full, clean NZ driver's licence and passenger endorsement?  Are you a friendly, outgoing person, with a good level of fitness?  We need a quick learner willing to drive clients to and from walking and hiking destinations (short distances as Stewart Island only has 28kms of roads).  The suitable candidate will also guide scenic and birding road tours and provide informative commentary.  Seasonal role October to April. 

SUPPORT GUIDE

An important role! Can you help fill in gaps, working on a variety of jobs and also assisting our Nature Guide on overnight trips, whilst training to lead trips in the future. You will also assist as driver guide on scenic road tours and help with road shuttle drop-offs and pick-ups.  Are you flexible, friendly and helpful. Must be physically fit. For the right candidate, willing to commit to several seasons. Mainly seasonal from October to April.
